The Fighting Temeraire: Why JMW Turner's greatest painting is so misunderstood

The UK’s arts scene is set for a radical shakeup with the launch of Art for All, a new government-backed programme transforming everyday spaces into pop-up galleries. From abandoned tube stations to shopping centres, the initiative will showcase immersive digital art, live performances, and interactive installations – making contemporary art accessible to all.

Leading the project is the Tate Modern, partnering with local artists and tech innovators to create site-specific works. Highlights include AI-generated murals in Birmingham’s Bullring and a soundscape experience in Manchester’s historic Victoria Baths.

“We’re breaking down barriers between art and the public,” says curator Sarah Lin. “This is art where you least expect it.”

The first exhibitions open this autumn.
